Running on Christmas day
|Christmas Day 2009|
Well blow me down with a snow storm, Christmas is only bloomin well less than a week away! That’s exciting/stressful/irrelevant depending on your feeling and faith. There’s a lot of traditional things that my family does at Christmas like going for a curry on Christmas Eve. It’s closer to the type of food that may have been eaten at the birth of Baby J, that and we’re preparing for some serious chicken and sprout lock-in over the next few days.
Daley Thompson famously trained hard on Christmas Day because he knew his competitors wouldn’t be and this would give him an advantage. I run on 25 December for similar reasons: the streets are pretty empty, there’s hardly any cars about, ‘it’s the most wonderful time of the year’ to run.
So in the lul between morning excitement and the excesses of Christmas lunch, put your shoes (and maybe even a Santa hat) and go for a run – even if it’s just for 20 minutes. I very much recommend it. Especially if the kids/in-laws/parents/siblings/TV are doing your head in. I’ll be running, but I’m not expecting to be running through snow this year.
