Today I got up at 4am, got a taxi to the airport and by mid afternoon I was swimming in crystal clear water off the south coast of Sardinia. I am on holiday. Hooray!

Clearly the picture above isn’t of Sardinia. That was taken on Monday night at Hampstead Ladies Pond. I’m being photobombed by Laura and shortly after this Josie joined us and made friends with some ducks.

Monday a was another early start. I’d woken up in Austria and flown back to London in time to be at my desk at 1pm. When I dragged myself out of bed at 5am the last thing I wanted to do that evening was go swimming in a pond. But I did. I did it without a wetsuit too which was refreshing. And I’m glad I did because the last of the opportunities for evening swims are upon us.

My friend Liz Goodchild wrote recently about not giving in to the toddler inside you that makes decisions based on what it wants to do in that moment. I hate flying and I really didn’t want to get up at 4am to get in a plane. But now it’s done and I get to swim in the sea which is a lot warmer than those ponds in London and then eat pizza bigger than my head.

There’s always time for swimming and pizza. Enjoy the last couple of weeks of swimming outside while you can.
