It’s with great sadness and disappointment that I write my decision not to take part in the Silverstone Half Marathon. After a bad back around Christmas and then going on holiday for two and a half weeks, it was difficult to get back into running and left only seven weeks of training for the big event.

I do intend to run a half marathon this year but as it will be my first time I want to be prepared and go into it knowing I can do it so that I’ll (hopefully) enjoy the experience, rather than panicking,  not doing enough training and worrying about that in an attempt to cross Silverstone off the list.

My 10K last year was great because I’d done just enough training to feel confident I could complete it in a reasonable time and little enough that I know I can do better next time. The experience didn’t have me saying ‘never again’ and instead I’m looking to improve on my time of 57:17 this summer.

So call me a drop out if you want, but I’ve made the decision that is right for me – and now I have a new plan! Watch this space for more details!
