I’ve entered a half marathon and this time I WILL complete it. There’s just the small matter of training getting in the way. One of the biggest difficulties when it comes to putting in the training (well, after my own procrastination) is the weather. As well as a three-week holiday and a cold that wouldn’t go away, I blame the weather for stopping me taking part in the half-marathon I was supposed to do this month.

That’s all in the past now though and I’ve learnt from the experience, and I’ve therefore entered a half-marathon in October. Now I have the longer days of the summer and the better weather to help me put in all the miles I’ll need to do in order to get me round the 13.1 mile course.

I’ve also chosen a half-marathon back home in Peterborough where I have family ready to be dispatched to various markers round the route to cheer me on (or at least shame me into finishing). Support, I’ve realised from doing the 10k, is more vital than I thought.

I did get jealous of the runners that had people there to cheer them on. More than that though, I thought it was rude of people not to cheer on all the other runners. So my cheering squad will be dispatched with instructions to support me as well as any other poor soul who looks in need of a boost.
