One question that goes back and forth in my mind is whether or not I should join a running club. Obviously there are the plus points of organised runs, coaches that know what they’re talking about and people to support you.

However, one thing you should know about Lazy Girl is that she’s not good with new people, doesn’t like a crowd and is generally a bit anti-social – who would have suspected such traits from someone who writes a blog?

I like the idea of being part of a running club in principal, but in practice it may trigger flashbacks to PE class at secondary school and I’ll revert to my old ways of sitting on the bench faking a sprained ankle.

One of the things I like about running is that it only needs me and a pair of trainers to make it happen. Bring more people into the equation and who knows what might happen. At the moment I’m only competitive with myself – so it’s a win-win situation.

I carry on running because, compared to the me of 12 months ago, I’m actually quite good at it. There’s a real danger, however, that if I ran with people that have been doing it longer or more regularly than myself, I might discover I’m not that good after all.

I think for now I’ll carry on with membership to my running club of one, confident in the knowledge that I’m the best runner in it.
