In 1770 Captain Cook first set foot in Quensland at the town of 1770. I know! What a coincidence. He’d run out of food and water and came ashore looking for something to eat and drink. He found both and had a hearty meal of ‘bustard’, a large bird after which he named the area Bustards Bay.

Fast forward 240 years and this Lazy Girl first sets foot in the town of 1770. Stand by for a possible renaming of the town. I too wandered the area hungry and thirsty but it wasn’t a bird that saved me but my trainers.

The helpful man at the information stall told me walking down the beach from the town of Agnes Water to 1770 was the nicest route. So that’s what I did. I walked and I walked and I walked some more. An hour and a half of walking on sand in fact. There was nothing and nobody around and it was nearly dusk.

When I finally made it to 1770 it was time to head back. Luckily I was packing my running kit so after a quick change behind a bush I ran back to town along the road and watched the sun set as I went. A friendly local pulled alongside me in his truck and asked “You exercising?”

“Yes I am.”

“You want a lift?”

“No thanks. It’s about 5k back to town isn’t it?”

“Nah, about 8.”

And with that he sped off before I had chance to change my mind. I did make it back though, thanks to my kit. The next evening I ate pizza during sunset rather than getting lost and running home.
