You'll have seen it everywhere at the Olympics and on the football pitch at the weekends - athletes sporting what looks like electrical tape holding them together. Kinesiology tape is the latest sports injury product filtering down from elite to amateur level athletes. The tape is supposed to "provide pain relief, reduce swelling, assist a range of movement [...]
After a couple of weeks of thinking that I may have to watch Venice Marathon from a gondola on the sidelines because of injury, a few visits to the physio and a deal made with the Marathon Gods saw me heading out for the last long run before taper time with two fully functioning legs and a [...]
Along with 100,000 or more people across the country, I had a visit from Elvis last week. He came to me on the cover of the London Marathon rejection magazine to tell me it was bad news: yet again I'd failed to get a place in a marathon that pretty much passes my front door.Of [...]
Dear Marathon GodsYou've been very kind to me this year, you've given me a lot of things. There was that half marathon in Bangkok that you rescheduled perfectly to let me do it a few days before flying home from my travels. Then you let me do two marathons in six weeks while I also worshiped at [...]
Monday lunchtime posed that usual dilemma that office workers across the country face: what to get for my lunch. A couple of years ago, running showed me that things I had previously thought were impossible were actually within my grasp with a bit of hard work and application. When faced with a brick wall I think back to the days when I couldn't run for a mile without stopping and collapsing in a big heap. [...]
There's three things I look for when choosing a race: that they're cheap, easy to get to and well organised. At £21 and a half hour train journey away from London, Maidenhead Half Marathon looked like a good prospect and the relatively flat course had PB potential all over it.The race began in the town [...]
Guest Post: Vicki and her sister Christine taken on the world's biggest half marathon, Great North Run.Yesterday I ran a marathon with my sister. By which I mean we both did the Great North Run, so between two of us we ran a marathon, or a half marathon each for the pedants of this world. So how [...]
